Remember the Fire and the Haze (2009)

The forest fire seems to be an annual disaster in Riau Province for years. I became a bearing witness about how human so dishonoured the nature with burnt forest and peat land for their own benefit. In 2009, more than 10.000 hectare of forest and peat land were ruined due to the fire.

Using fire as the conventional way to clear the land still become the easier way for farmers, even for some companies untill now. They seem dont realize the impact of the burning peat land not only produce thick haze, but also release million of carbon into the air and contribute for the global warming. Thats why Riau is getting so hot, 34-36 degree in celcius, because the temperature is rising 2 degree this year.

The disaster now emerge once again this year. The goverment published the data that more than 5.000 hectare of peat land was already burnt since early Oktober. And before it getting worst, these are some pictures about the fire and the haze that i captured in 2009.
